Seven Servings of Tasty Thanksgiving Haiku Poems

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, but it’s not all gravy. Here is a sampling of the many moods it inspires.

A Mayflower Tragedy

What if the ship sank

Would cranberry sauce exist?

When would we eat it?

Because No Ovens

Did Pilgrims have pie?

Turkey, for sure; squash, maybe

But pie? Unlikely

A Cautionary Thanksgiving Tip

Plan now to eat less

So it’s not your pants button

Taking out an eye

I’m grateful for life

I’m thankful I have enough

Hope I always do

Hot Air at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Sponsored big balloons

Incite seasonal excess

Traditional tripe

Empty Chairs

Silent witnesses

To my cherished memories

When we were many

Turkey, pumpkin pie,

Stuffing, potatoes, gravy

Extra syllables

Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, I loved these! The first few bing lighthearted, I was taken off-guard by Empty Chairs and had tears in my eyes by the end. Nicely done.

Reading this inspired me to write as well. But to be honest, poetry is not my cup of tea.

A lot of great ones! Empty Chairs really struck me

  • Well done and loved the thanksgiving theme and the connection with history. One of my short stories ended with a thanksgiving celebration and I wonder how authentic it is, given than I have never been part of a thanksgiving. If you have a minute to take a look, I would appreciate any comments. The story is historical, based (loosely) on an incident in the Oklahoma territory during the days of the land run. https://vocal.media/fiction/the-brothers-of-logan-county Congratulations again on your win
