There’s something so specific

About September blue.

It feels more autumnal

Than any other spring hue.

Like I can hear the leaves crunching

As I’m staring at the sky,

But the leaves are green and growing

So I’m left wondering “why?”

What is it about September

That feels so much like fall?

The days feel so much hazier

And the birdsong starts to drawl

As the branches start to burst

And the flowers start to blossom

And the little dens hold birds and snakes

And sometimes even possums.

Did Persephone learn to rise again

By watching sweet Aurora?

They bring the light so gently

Blanketing fauna and flora

And cast a mist so soft and fine

Across the milky valley.

The birds rise with the sun

And will soon begin to rally

As the days grow ever brighter

And the clouds begin to brew.

I’m left gazing at the sky

Drenched in melancholy and September blue.
