Seasons Change
a metaphoric poem based on a true events in my life
A seed sits on the earthy ground
And sees all it could be
But living in the garden still
Does not make you a tree
The young seed doesn’t understand
The only way to sprout
Is for someone to plant it
And tend to it in the ground
...
That is when the Roots take over
Where the planter can’t
Below the surface, this seed
Will prepare to be a plant
To make it on its own is still
A distant future dream
‘Till unannounced, a gift from heaven
Came to plant the seed
...
He dreamed of what could blossom
When the seed had stronger Roots
He worked, and cared, wouldn’t rest
Until it bore good fruit
A passion burned for years,
And grew in seed and planter both,
The seed leaned on the planter
As a mentor for its growth
...
The seed is now a tree, and
Getting stronger every day
The humble planter credited
The Roots for progress made
One year there was snow so deep
It kept the two apart
The tree would hold its own
But missed its mentors strong support
...
The weather remained bitter
Longer than it ever had
And when the snow had melted
There was just a muddy path
The planter and the tree had
Weathered storms like this before
But something this year changed
And they were not close anymore
...
The tree held to its Roots and stood
Despite the heavy change,
But knew the mentors absence
Meant nothing would be the same
A few more years of growth,
The tree was tall enough to see
The planters life continued on
With several other trees
...
The tree thought of it’s young-seed years
And thought the planter knew
The tree was still that seed who
Needed him before it grew
What changed its mentors mind
During the winter was unknown
It thought the planter’d never leave
The day the seed was sewn
...
Sustaining it today, the tree
Stays grounded through its Roots
And though losing him hurt,
Because he watered it, they grew.
The tree thanks God in Heaven
For that gift, though found through pain;
It was the Roots, not man, weathering
Through each seasons’ change.
