Amazed by a maze at a small roadside fair
Stood a scarecrow too scared to scare crows
Torn at the seams, his stuffings feeding a mare
Watching folks, like a late night picture show
Pumpkins and gourds in shapes of goblins and ghosts
Draw attention away from the facts
Everyone’s come to give fall a toast
As the last summer days, gets the axe
Campfires content, spitting sparks at the sky
Matching the bright flickering light of the stars
Competition heats up as the red flames ignite
Warming the deepest desires in our hearts
The chill in the air is a little reminder
To savor the moments of a day
The connections between us making us kinder
All from cornstalks and clothes stuffed with hay

A well woven piece. I feel sorry for the scarecrow 🩵
My grandson (2) loves your image! I was reading your poem to him and his sister and she (just turned 4) blurted out "pumpkins don't have ghosts Poppy" at the end of the 5th. Loved by all the ages - well done!
This is so fun! Nicely done. 😊
I do love the fall. And the scene you describe is part of the magic.
