Just A Colour?

Crimson, blood spilt, a rage boiling over.

Signs of fertility or stark warnings

Against perilous young lovers' embrace?

Perhaps a sign of the coming mourning.

Scarlet: a beauty's blush or forewarning?

A romanticist's dream or dangerous

As its eponym the deathly fever?

Or maybe the two are synonymous.

Ruby, a jewel surely to be revered,

A possession evoking such envy,

For an object of simple innocence.

So much materialism, how could this be?

Cardinal, Garnet, Imperial, Red:

Known shades, yet complex mysteries implied.
