He gave me red roses.
In all the stress and chaos of that day
he walked to my door and handed me those red thorned beauties.
I never liked roses.
They were too cliché and mainstream
but he gave them to me
Years passed and those roses died.
They were taken from me
I didn't realize how much I missed them.
Then one sunny April afternoon,
I came home to a mysterious bouquet
of red roses.
There was no name or explanation,
just a phone number I didn't recognize.
But I knew the voice that would answer
The sound of his "hello" made my heart jump
As if I had never stopped hearing it.
After everything, he gave me red roses
I was blind to my need for those rich coloured petals
I had no idea the magic they held.
It was the roses that brought me back to him
Now, whenever I see them, I remember
that time he gave me red roses
and now I can't help loving the cliché
