Only Dreaming

Why can't you look deeper?

When she's laying in the bed

Trying not to snore

So you don't leave.

When she's trying to tell herself

You're not coming

But then you open her bedroom door

It's when she's biting the inside of her cheek

Trying not to smile that smile

She knows you used to like so much

It's when she wants so badly to break down and cry

But holds it inside

because she knows you'll feel guilty

And she doesn't want you to feel that pain

It's when she swallows her pride and apologizes first

Because she can't stand to see the hurt in your eyes

After an unintentional passing in the hallway

It's how she always puts you first

Because she's afraid of losing you to herself

If she showed the pride within

It's when she waits for you to park your car

So she can walk up to the office with you and watch

As your lips smoothly pull at that smile that just steals her pulse

What would you do if you could feel

The way her body flinches into happiness

As you pull up next to her and her whole day is made

Just because you're there

Standing so close she can feel you breathing

But yet you're oceans apart

And I know we will only be a dream...
