Rainy day in the city

is pouring off the rooftop

dripping scattered from the grey sky

dropping tears plink-plonking

stringing down the hair, hanging wet

pressing raw against the damp skin

trickling down the gutter semi-frozen

melting snow by the roadside

pooling puddles on the slippery highway

splashing cars speeding by

stinging cold against the North Side

of my house, flooding the eaves

gushing through the down spouts

pelting the ground awakening the spring lawn

further, in the safe distance

thunderstorm rain crashes down

upon the surface of the river

testing its banks

but warm inside, gazing out of my rain streaked window

I can welcome and embrace it

sipping hot chocolate

I listen to the rainy day

weeping raindrops in.
