Racially ambiguous

A note to the confused colours in me

Dearly departed, look what you started...

Look at the seas which were merged, and conquered.

Look closer, see the people

Their lands divided and then parted

Racially ambiguous

Culturally confused

Look at all this diverse energy,

All these colours and cultures you fused

Now here is me, the daughter of your daughters

Reading content once burned, yet somehow so important.

Racially ambiguous,

Culturally confused

Look at all this toxic energy,

Look at mama’s new bruise

I wonder if she knows, that she had the choice to choose

I wonder when she knew

How to give back the borrowed, or how to soothe the blues

Did she speak to ancestors in the flickering lights of red and orange too?

So here is her daughter,

A little lost, and still confused

Observing great-grans poems, the magic that went unperused

“Lentas e lentas, suas maos avaras

Vao desfiando pedriarias raras

Terco que as ondas vao rezando as vezes”

- Slow and slow,

- Go unravel the stones

- The waves are praying for you
