Power Outage

Take a step back from the constant tech

Power Outage

On a cold December morning

with a quiet chill in the air,

some ice knocked out the power

forcing him into despair.

He stared at an empty screen

for 20 minutes, maybe more.

Smacking button after button,

the constant clicking was hard to ignore.

I watched as his face changed

from annoyance to frustration

as he paced in the silence

not bothering with conversation.

He wandered throughout the house

passing boxes stuffed with yarn and crochet hooks.

There were cards on the table

and the shelves were full of books.

He nearly tripped over a tennis ball

that rolled across the room.

The dogs watched with perked ears,

they too could see him fume.

After a couple hours

upset and defeated,

he slumped onto the couch

finally being seated.

A morning spent so focused

on accessing tech that could not start,

He missed activities

that would be good for his heart.

Strained eyes, back pain,

an always buzzing mind,

he ignored an opportunity

to spend the day relaxed and reclined.
