Poetry, a form of art that knows no limits nor bounds. It paints images of people, places and experiences in the mind of the reader and etches emotions onto the readers' soul. It allows the reader to live the lives of a thousand men as well as experience the poets' love, heart ache, achievements and failures. One poem has the potential to generate a myriad of interpretations and leave the reader with infinite ideologies to contemplate.
The poem featured below was made by Edo, she is an aspiring poet who uses each element of her art to create vivid imagery and her use of words spawns tales that have many complexly interrelating parts. Her work boasts of the richness of African soil, the purity of the clear streams that flow through her and the life giving essence of the Sun. This piece is titled "To Irie"
To Irie
It was the mother that shoved shards of glass down his throat.
It was because the sun always looked down on me and my skin was saturated in dirt.
This was for all the reckless fathers and toxic mothers...
for all the broken children that resulted from the mess we choose to accept.
These were for all the paper babies that he carved out using shards of glass
and painted with the liquid he scrapped from the walls in between my legs...
I mean our legs
-Edo
