Poetic Letters to Self: A Healing Process

"i dream of flying"

i DREAM OF FLYING

being FREE AND NO LONGER

a PRISONER INSIDE MY MIND

the WAY MY DAD IS.

i DREAM OF BEING ONE WITH THE WIND,

flying JUST ABOVE THE OCEAN

where MY ARMS FEEL FREE

and MY LIMBS ARE FREE.

i DREAM OF BEING FREE

a DAYDREAM THAT I HOPE TURNS INTO A NIGHT DREAM.

i DREAM OF SEEING THE WORLD WITH MY EYES

i DREAM.

i DREAM OF BEING TRULY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY FREE.

"HEART"

I feel hear beating,

I am ALIVE.

She's so strong and beautiful,

she keeps me going.

Fearless she is, but very sensitive,

and not too shy:

the second someone approaches her

she dances like she never danced in her life.

Sometimes she scares me

because I feel like she's overworking herself,

but only she knows what she's capable,

and even on her bad days,

she always bounces back,

and stop running full speed ahead,

only to take a soft stroll

through life.

I feel her beating,

and I love her.

"i BELIEVE"

i believe in love.

i believe in humans.

i believe we can fly past the sky like doves,

if birds fly, i believe we can do it.

i believe in a clean heart,

i believe in a tall soul.

We were born with it from the start.

We're stronger than we think, we won't fold.

i believe in YOU,

i believe in me.

i want us to live in our own truth,

and be set free.

i dream that one day we won't chase happiness,

because it will be right at our fingertips.

I BELIEVE.

TAKE ME BACK TO A TIME

WHEN SIRENS DIDN'T MAKE

MY HEART SKIP A BEAT

MY CHEST SWEATY

MY HEAD POUND

WHEN CERTAIN WORDS WOULDN'T

TRIGGER ME TO GET ME OFF

MY FEET

TAKE ME BACK TO A TIME

WHEN I WASN'T AFRAID,

WHEN THE SIGHT OF A NURSE

MADE ME FEEL SAFE

TAKE ME BACK TO A TIME

WHERE MY MIND WOULDN'T

RACE A MARATHON IT CAN'T WIN

TAKE ME BACK!
