Poem: "Follow, Unfollow"

And just like that, something happened

what was at first just an innocent trifle

now had awoken a side of you that

seemed to have always existed

call it a talent or once-latent desire

now an activity that sets your heart on fire

it's fun to you then, and now it's a hobby

might be a market or a brand to embody

(but you wouldn't know that)

you get good at it now, but things get busy

school, a death, or a relationship comes through

and the itch you have is no longer itchy

ignored, and you break the rhythm

years go by and you have accomplished much

or maybe nothing at all

someday you grow bored and reflect

in the midst of a high or a low

and you revisit the old path you followed

back on the trail, your sights set anew

breathe in the air after all you went through

you got a job, a degree, or a certification of sorts

but what if you return to the vision you set forth

as a kid, when you were young

and had abandoned for years

put aside all you have

the future

is near
