Pastel Demons

Don't Be Fooled

She smiles

She dances

She sings

She is

The single

Perfect stroke

Of a flawless cat eye

Black to line

Her laughing eyes

She is red lipstick

She is curls that bounce

When she moves closer

To embrace you

She is the wildest hair dyes

Vibrant rainbow colours

A different shade for every lock

All designed

To leave a sunny trail

Of whimsical smiles

Behind her

But she is alone now

Her flawless cat eye makeup

Now a smudged trail

On her reddened cheek

No one sees her tears

Some demons are not

Made of shadow

Some claw their way out

Of the pastels in her hair

Sadness is not always painted

In shades of grey

And black

Sometimes depression hides

Behind a convincing mask

Of wellness

And normalcy

Of colour

And light

Of sparkling eyes

Full of warmth

And laughter

Do not be fooled

Reach back for those

Who reach for you

Because sometimes

Those who love the deepest

Hurt the most

Sometimes their only joy

Is to see you smile

But that doesn't mean

That they're okay

Reach, too

For those

Who don't seem

To need it
