Overcome the dragon!

Much had changed, since his inevitable downfall.

The mountains no longer surged with the smoke of an unyielding fury,

And the ash no longer tainted the air with venom.

The shadows that lurked within the dreams of all men,

Seemingly vanished as peace seemed to resume its authority over the dominion of all kingdoms.

And so it seemed that the minds of all that lived dwelt in peace.

The prosperity of all cities that dwelt within the land,

Undisturbed, by the drums of war.

Trade throughout the kingdoms was flourishing,

And travel upon the open roads went without conflict or challenge!

But, of course, no decent story could continue to dwell in peace without conflict to arise,

Regardless if it be directly, or in a more, subtle manner.

Hidden, deep within the shadows, unseen to the naked eyes of mortal men.

Certainly no author of any quality tale would throw his characters into chaos!

What horrible person would do harm to his characters?

What madman would force them into a horrid abyss of conflict and tragedy?

Oh, woe to these characters!

What ever shall they do?

...

Oh, how indisputably naive of so many aspiring and budding new writers…

And so within the northern portion of the land, far across distant the dominion of mountains near the realm of draconian rule,

On the highest mountain that towered over all the ancients challenges of old,

Towering over the earth, perched upon the rock itself,

A fearsome hybrid dragon of the black and red legion arose to challenge the authority of the kingdoms!

“I would see the downfall of these lowly peasants,

And see the end of the days of the poultry and the pathetic!

As a king who does not suffer the authority of his rule,

As a ruler who executes judgment against his rivals,

So I declare the death of these kingdoms,

I declare war upon the land!”

Day after day, the fearsome beast ravaged the cities with fire and blood shed!

The very screams of women and children piercing the air, as knights came forward to overcome the monster!

But, with each passing day, the beast triumphed over a new city.

Days went by, and each moment the hopes that there was news of the beasts defeat, evaded their ears.

Despair, crept into the hearts of mankind.

The days grew darker despite the sunlights positioning,

And the tales of smoke and fire clouded the hearts of all.

As the kingdoms continued to hear the ill news of the dragon,

A king heard of this and was vexed sorely in his spirit.

“I will not have it, nor will I endure this beast any further.

It is time to vanquish the beast, once, and for all!”

A proclamation declared, the trumpets sounded,

The armies massed to defend the kingdoms!

They marched to the nearest city where the dragon had yet to attack,

Nearest to the latest attack, and waited…

The dragon's roar was heard near the outskirts of the city,

And the king readied his artillery.

As the dragon began roaring, no citizens were fleeing.

Soaring, declaring his victory.

The dragon screamed in agony as a ballista shot an arrow at the dragon's chest.

Another ballista pierced right through his neck, and the beast was shot out of the sky.

And so it was, that the hybrid terror was defeated!

And peace was restored, to the land!
