The pack is one

From time to time

One pup doesn’t fit

Neither leader

Nor follower

Not the beginning

Not the middle

Nor the end

Part of the pack

Yet not one with the pack

Alpha accepts this

Odd offspring

No fear of challenge

To the rightful leadership

He allows him to live

To feed

To be safe

======

The Odd one

Conflicted

Longing to be like the others

Knowing he doesn’t belong

Yet feeling a part

Within the pack he is alone

On scout trips alone

He feels relaxed in his destiny

======

A day comes

The Loner must leave

Alpha knew this

Knowing the destiny lay elsewhere

When moon is new

Darkness complete

Loner slips away

From the family he has known

======

Cold is brutal

Hunting is harder

Stronger and wiser

Loner fulfills his destiny

Nights are filled with

Memories of moon lit singing

Longing for companionship

Rest comes late

Often infrequent

Each trial

Each tribulation

Strengthens the power

Loner becomes

Outwardly fearless

Able to grasp his fears

Out them away

Deal with the threat on the day

One night

Days, weeks, months or years

Later, as wolves have no time

The auroras lighting the skies

On clear new moon night

Loner lifts his head

Singing the song of his heart

Unafraid of territories

Of rival packs, who boundaries he skirts

Living between the packs

An echo is returned

The auroras intensify

Similar

Yet different

To his own lone song

Far, far away, yet out there

Another like himself

North he will travel

To find the source of the song
