The real Muntjac. The inspiration.

~Author's Note: The following is the first installment in a series of poems -- soon to be a Children's Book, complete with photographs and illustrations -- inspired by my very real cat, Muntjac (Jack). He goes through life with a broken body but a completely whole and beautiful spirit. With a heart full of courage, good cheer, and mischief, he fills our hearts (and hopefully yours) with joy and love and teaches us all (kids and above) a lesson about surviving trials without losing our zest for life.~

❤ ❤ ❤

He is one strange kitten,

Not much like the others.

He's once shy, twice bitten,

By all his big brothers.

🐾

Sometimes playtime is not as much fun,

When he gets teased for the way he runs.

He knows he's different from the rest,

But he's determined to give his best.

🐾

He sometimes cries at night,

When he has to go pee.

It's a pitiful sight,

Just between you and me.

🐾

But his mama knows it's hard to see,

Since his eyes are not what they should be.

They often fail him when it's pitch black.

So, she helps him get up from his back.

🐾

Since for him running is really quite tough,

He doesn't mind being grabbed by the scruff.

It's not that bad being carried around,

But it sure is scary not touching ground.

🐾

Still, he would fall down less if he could,

But his legs don’t work the way they should.

He hates how his back hurts when he walks,

And his feet don’t listen when he talks.

🐾

He loves getting extra belly rubs,

But he sure hates the sight of that tub,

He knows mama hates all of the grime,

But he gets awful scared at bath time.

🐾

Still, he has those humans pretty well trained.

They might believe it's him that has been tamed.

But even though, he's the one with furballs,

It is they who come running when he calls.

🐾

Life is still full of rewards,

And couldn't be all that bad.

Since he truly is adored,

No. He never is that sad.

🐾

He relies upon his human pair,

And entrusts himself into their care.

Because he's earned so much of their love,

They watch ever over from above.

🐾

Yes, he is one brave kitten.

Not much like all the others.

He is once shy, twice bitten.

But still loved by his brothers.
