Once Upon A Summertime

Memories Of Gold

Sultry summer winds with diamond dust skies

Crickets rubbing wings and bright fireflies

Slumbers past noon plus late watching cartoons

Chlorine clear blues in water wrapped cocoons

---

Sun drenched dermis and popsicle stained lips

Endless pool dips, hopscotch, and pick up sticks

Video tape rentals with popcorn buckets

Lizard catching and roof climbing ruckus

---

Bike rides in the hushed nights, chased by wild dogs

Water meter probes for large cool frogs

Plush grass picnics and mosquito bites

Cookouts and charred foods was hungers invite

---

Grandma’s house reigned freedom in summertime

Thoughts of pure raw joy, summer never dies
