On the other side
reflecting is sometimes necessary
Awoken, to silence and darkness
The room, desolate and empty
Scanning, searching for an exit
A strange window, the only source of light
Running, frantically reaching for escape
SLAM
Bouncing off, falling roughly to the floor
Standing up, trying to gain some ground
Sweaty injured palms, pressed against thick glass
Eyes rapidly move, looking for anything
Movement, signs of life catches attention
Small child, playing happily on the floor
Focusing, more becomes apparent
WARMTH
The other room, brightness
Toys, food, light, feelings of safety
Growling, hands go to quite the sound
Shivers, nothing to ease the aches
Shadows, dancing close around
Hands knock on glass, desperate for attention
Movement stops, the child turns to the noise
GASPS
Disbelief, refusing to believe
Clambering away, something not quite right
The child approaches the glass, tiny hands placed gently
The face on the other side, a mirror of sorts
As if time itself, reversed and turned back
cautiously approaching, contemplating emotions
A smile graces the child’s face
cheeks tug slightly to reciprocate
sinking to the floor, the child slides along
glancing behind, then through the glass
STAB
The differences, obvious and numerous
Raising hands meet on the glass, reflecting the other
Tears fall freely, emotions come to the surface
The mirror, the window, it shows so much
Another time, another place
Almost like another life
Eyes slide closed and deep breaths taken
Eyes reopen, into a more familiar setting
HOLLOWNESS
Hand lowers from the mirror
Staring at the reflection, now identical
This reflection; no smile
This reflection; no warmth
Eyes slide shut again, turning away from the sight
To wish was futile, to hope was pointless
The other side; lost
Not to be found again.
