On My Own

A Poem

To be on my own is to heal,

To be on my own is real,

Though it hurts me,

I’m hurting to heal

Unsure where my thoughts are wandering to,

I won’t box them in;

I’ll leave the keys behind,

Hoping they’ll lock up when they leave

It hurt me more to say “I‘m broken.”

So I would avoid it to keep it outside,

I’d try, but the thoughts would run around in my head, making me something else instead

Demons dancing on my mind,

I say I’m fine;

As if they’re not there all the time
