Ode to Vanessa my Red Butterfly :
Narrative Poem
Vanessa is
undoubtedly striking, my red butterfly.
Swiftly, their hands intertwine
flutter softly, their hearts patter—
My face as flush as a lacewing
Let's walk together over the shoulder,
The two huddle close
by the garden of roses.
Her smell dazes me,
Her voices as timid as a violin,
as I gaze at Vanessa’s allure.
She is both,
powerful and bewitching
the roses were merely clusters of scarlet peacock wings, peacocking
JUST for them.
His eyes had depth of mahogany.
His voice deep as a cello
She was caught admiring his skin,
the primary shade of red admiral wings.
Lovers dart their eyes to the sky,
HUNDREDS
of red butterflies wings
Like our hearts palpate,
beats per second—
Their only doubt
that stung like a nettle
Will this last, or have we settled ?
Only the sun,
can transform the sky:
Like a blend of watercolors
Shades of ruby, like lipstick
Sunrises,sunsets shines
On the wings of red butterflies
