Triumph over the water our fair marvels
Architectural divinity pure at heart
Influential at best, our works of art
Once declared “Seventh Wonder of the Modern World”
A massive artery for the strenuous commute
Overlooks the safe passage for all our friends
The truest of its form, it pays dividends
A tourist attraction for so many far and wide
Its brick towers welcomes you through with ease
Offering a view in so many ways to impress
Hailed as the best from the freedom of the press
Such fanfare be bestowed upon its creator
Who closed his eyes before its’ unveiling
A posthumous reward for the German man
Helped transform the spirit into an American plan
So much love and care you must give
It’s no easy task we must admit
Its fate and destiny rests in our hands
There’s no end to the list, it always expands
A landmark for the world to see
Seen by people on countless ships
Now fixed in their memory forever more
They have yet to see what’s really in store
Its claim to fame is where it stands
The prized location was part of the plan
We always see it no matter what we do
It’s a fact we can all proudly attest to.

A long, long time ago there was a family of harvest mice. Mice are common, but these were unique – born to those who had lived in the salty, marshy bay for many generations, these mice ate and drank from the sea as well as the land and rivers. For generations, there were only the southern families, scattered along the marshes of Corte Madera and in the San Francisco Bay (U.S. Fish & Wildlife, 2013). One family, however, would undergo strife and conflict before reaching a whole new world. What became of them after is another tale entirely – but this is how their story begins.
