From across the room

My Beloved
Photo by Honey Yanibel Minaya Cruz on Unsplash

I caught your gaze

from across the room.

I caught a glimpse of you

before the lights went down.

You caught mine too,

because we found our way

to each other

across that crowded dance floor.

Locked together

we swayed and explored in the heat

with the rhythm and beat.

Your hot breath upon my ear.

Your fingers tracing through sweat

rolling down my neck,

Down to the black dragon wings

tattooed above my breasts.

We went together,

better than the sun and dawn.

Better than the notes ringing from the song.

Waiting for each other

for decades,

Welcome back my beloved,

my mate,

into my longing, wide-open arms.
