Moving in the Wrong Direction

by Yvonne Glasgow about a year ago in surreal poetry

Moving in the Wrong Direction

Swirling, swirling

Spinning around like a top

Not a toy, a human

But I still can’t seem to stop

Like the Tilt-A-Whirl at the county fair

Spinning, I’m spinning out into the atmosphere

You ever have one of those dreams where it feels like you’re falling?

Tripped and woke up

Now I can’t stop stumbling

As I move through this life

Like a lab rat in a maze

Looking for the prize at the end

Unstable, losing my mind and running behind

The cheese will be gone when I get there

Twirling, twirling

Dancing like a ballerina

The one in that childhood jewelry box

She dances but gets nowhere

And here we still are

Never making it to that boat

Always missing our ship when it comes in

The key is to keep moving forward

Even when you hit a wall

Just change direction.
