(Intro/chorus)

Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a son or a daughter waiting on me .Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a baby to feed.

Why should it matter to me?

When I became a mother to them.

When I shouldn't of been.

Why should it matter to me?

To be appreciated on the only day that I can be.

(Verse 1)

Why should it matter to me?

I haven't given a time out

or sent a child to the room for speaking out of turn why should it matter to me?

when I'm making breakfast lunch and dinner helping them learn.

Why should it matter to me?

When I've always been there whenever they needed me.

(Chorus)

Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a son or a daughter waiting on me .Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a baby to feed.

Why should it matter to me?

When I became a mother to them.

When I shouldn't of been.

Why should it matter to me?

To be appreciated on the only day that I can be.

(Verse 2)

Why should it matter to me?

That when they needed someone, they needed me

I gave them an ear to bend.

I gave them someone they can count on.

I only gave them advice when they asked for it.

Then why should it matter to me?

When I've learned so much

Like the importance of space and how they face their own problems.

I've learned the independence that they strive for.

And letting go is hard when they aren't giving a long leash to explore.

chorus)

Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a son or a daughter waiting on me .Why should it matter to me?

When I don't have a baby to feed.

Why should it matter to me?

When I became a mother to them.

When I shouldn't of been.

Why should it matter to me?

To be appreciated on the only day that I can be.

(Outro)

Oh did you ever think.

That it might just matter to me.
