Morning Paws

On sharing cuddles

By Amy ChristiePublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Crunchy breakfast,

Tea and marmalade.

But what makes it so awesome?

Is it a flavor, a smile,

or something else

that jumps and purrs

and doesn’t stop to ask

if tables are ok to sit on

or curtains are just trees.

***

Soft paws and tiny noses

pink and set,

all ready to discover

what the pantry holds,

what the table’s got

that smells so nice,

and interesting.

***

No clues,

just diving paws

or simply sharing cuddles.

That’s how the mornings start

now that they’re here.

Two kittens and their toys.

***

And not just them,

the butterflies, the sky,

and all that wonder

that little souls bring every day.

For who could just forget

the fresh delight,

and breeze that comes

for paws

that snuggle

and watch you closely

with green and blue cute stares.

***

You could be riding,

laughing, cooking.

They would all join,

have fun,

and play.

And if somehow, they’re tangled

or just want to see

what’s new

they only have to meow

and ask,

the nicest way to join.

***

For pancakes, salads,

pizza, or just coffee.

The paws alert

comes running.

Nothing should happen here

that they’re not part of

or know

that they can be.

***

And if some treat awaits

they will still thank you,

and tell you just how much

you matter

and they love you.

Each day, and every second

they’re here to stay,

companions,

and family’s new members.

***

As they tread softly on their paws

and every time get closer

to you

and all you care for.

Now that you know

that meowing says so many words

in one sweet greeting

in the morning.

***

Hi Ms. Amy - I can so relate to your stories; one by one! And, although I'm not a Poet and I know it.*I've subscribed to you in anticipation of your next offering; your presentations are just lovely! This story has so much heart woven into it; lovely how you speak to your readers. I'm just an old story teller; nothing more: I've written a piece on behalf of - Pet Haven Minnesota - they name all of their 'Fosters.' It's Titled: 'Rescue' that has brought so much attention to their dedicated cause; that is a nice feeling. And, Amy, the Director is very much a 'Cat' person.
