Morning Dew

by Sypha 2 months ago in love poems

Aging Blissfully

When we wake in the morning

Will we walk in the morning dew?

She was only 20 and myself 22

I said of course we will both wake and come morning I will walk with you

When we wake in the morning

Will you promise to be here when I reach for you?

We had just married and on our honeymoon

I said of course we will both wake and come morning I shall be here next to you

When we wake in the morning

Will you have tea with me before you go?

She was pregnant With our first

I said of course we will both wake and come morning I’ll have tea with you

When we wake in the morning

Will you still find me to be as beautiful as before?

She just gave birth to our little girl

I said of course we will both wake and come morning I’ll love you the same if not more

When we wake in the morning

Will we walk in the morning dew?

Fifty years had passed along with our youth

I said of course we will both wake and come morning I will walk with you

When we woke in the morning

They took you away in the heavy fog

I sat alone there on the wet porch on the chair askew

It was old same as I and we wavered there

My tears many and my breaths few

Then, again came morning

I left, but when I left I wrote to our daughter

I have only one wish though you fulfilled many

Cast me and your mothers ashes along the road we used to walk

She only asked one thing

To walk with me in the morning dew

P.S. we love you
