Monster in my Mirror

There is a monster in my mirror

She is one of my very best friends

I need her and I love her

No matter how ugly she is to look at

At times, she is quite horrifying

But she is still my best friend

She is a gift to me

She gives me the blessings of self-awareness and self-love

There is a monster in my mirror

She reflects my weaknesses, my insecurities and my intolerance

Things I try to deny about myself

In her I can see them so clearly

I am not afraid of her, she does not frighten me

I only feel love and appreciation for her

I am grateful for her existence

This gift from the Divine

There is a monster in my mirror

Shining a light on how cruel I can sometimes be

And how I hurt the people I love and cherish

She makes me aware of my dark and twisted side

My scary side, the side I do not like share

The side that needs to be healed

The side that needs to be loved

There is a monster in my mirror

She doesn’t scare me because she is me

She is the scared little girl afraid of being forgotten

Afraid of being unloved

She is only fear and unhealed trauma
