Thank you to the students at Minnie Cannon Elementary School for performing "Stop Crime Against Kids."

As a mom who has always cared about giving my child non-violent options for television and entertainment, I wrote these raps with the intention of having people record them and share them in public service announcements and events, with their politicians, with their communities and with America. Our messages need to be heard, shared, and acted upon.

A few months ago, I went to a school in northern California and recorded these words with some of the students at Minnie Cannon Elementary. The students were fabulous and they were passionate about the importance of having this message heard to stop crime against kids.

The violence has not stopped, and we just have to be clear that we want action, we want legislation and we are not going to be silent as our children, our precious loved ones, have been in danger in places where they should have felt and been safe from harm.

The greatest thing you can do is share the words and ask people to share the words and let's do something positive.

There's two rap song words here: "Stop Crime Against Kids" and "Afternoons." The words of "Afternoons" will shake you up because they are about a child who was bored after school and came home and played with daddy's guns around a playmate and the gun went off—by accident killing his friend. It brings home the point that we cannot let these situations happen.

"Stop Crime Against Kids" by Lori Wilk

We're here with a message

We're taking to the streets

We have a challenge that we must meet

Our goal is to Stop Crime Against Kids

It's a very big job

For which nobody bids

No it's not easy to help stop crime

but this is a job

that's yours and mine.

Let's get together

Let's work as one

And We'll stick together

Until we get the job done.

"AFTERNOONS"

School has ended

Now what should I do?

Dad is working

and Mom is too.

It's the afternoon

The days are hot

I could stay in the streets

or maybe not.

I'll go home

TV's got tunes

But it's really boring

All these afternoons.

Maybe I'll play

with Daddy's gun

That will be exciting

That will be fun

I know, I'll share

This fun with my friend

but I never expected

the way the day would end

The gun went off

my friend is dead

I was an accident

I shot him

in the head

The days seem long

the streets are hot

Should I go home

Maybe Yes

Maybe not.
