Mom (I love you)

To the strongest, most loving mother out there! Inspired by Taylor Swift's 'The Best Day (Taylor's Version)'

I'm five years old

hiding behind your leg,

shaking 'cause the world feels cold today.

You rub your hand on my back,

I want to run so far away,

but you tell me everything will be okay.

Do you remember that old wooden slide,

or the piece of it that got stuck inside my leg;

I swear you saved my life that day.

Now I'm twelve years old

crying under my blankets –

over somethin' Dad said to me.

You squeeze your arms around me,

I want so desperately to fade to gray,

but you tell me how much you love me, everyday.

Every word spoken from your kind mouth

is a spell filled with so much magic;

you change my life every single day.

I'm even older now

wishing I could hide behind your leg,

still uncertain if I'll be brave today.

I don't know why the world keeps on changing –

but I know it'll keep on going –

and you'll be there to make it the best day.
