Summer Days/Nights
It was a Friday afternoon in June
when you recieved the call.
We knew it would come, and yet
we dreamed the summer days would
pass us by in peace and silence.
You took my hand in yours
and we walked along the sandy beach
in a silent daze. It would be a
cruelly perfect day.
As the sun began to sink beneath the
glittering blue water
the sky exploded in a pastel bliss
that made the world feel painted on
an unseen backdrop. Mellow and beauteous,
and in colors countless enough that
we tried naming them to slow the
time.
The colors slipped by, grains of sand
in the hourglass-
beneath our feet-
and the lilac faded to navy and
blurred.
It was final, beautiful, and entirely too
sad to say goodbye.
