Coffee-Stained

The coffee stains that have collected

on our counters and table cloths

tell the tale of mornings that span

our years.

Some stains tell the tale of sleepy morning

kisses that could hardly drag themselves

from bed, because the morning glow of

sunrise cast heavenly crowns over

earth bed mates.

Other stains, darker,

etched deep into the table

tell of mornings

where coffee cups savoured the

caress of lips that would not speak.

Could not speak

of hurt or sorrow.

These stains, all of them, collected

over our years

of mornings and afternoons, tell the stories of our many

loving and struggling days, as

varied as the coffee and cream that fills our cups.
