Merry go Round
Let the inner child be free
I want to ride the merry go round
instead, I ride the bus
like all the other adult children
like all the rest of us.
Who would rather be on a porcelain pony
or on a camels back
we go to work like mindless drones
to keep the world on track.
We are told how to live our lives
do what you're supposed to do
we wake to another groundhog day
smile, never showing that we're blue.
From my office window
the wind blows through the trees
I'd rather be in the park, with string in hand
flying kites in the summer breeze.
When my children grow to adulthood
I will encourage them to break free
of society rules and roles
and be a child who climbs a tree.
Responsibilities cling like mud
and hold us to the ground
I would rather fly in the sky
or ride the merry go round.
Slow down and let the inner child in you come out to play, you deserve it.
Thank you, for taking the time to read my poem.
