Everywhere I look
I see them
small reminders of
a life before now
a time before change
sadness overtakes
my heart and soul
it misses what
is not there anymore
I learn to embrace it
the grief that comes
and goes like waves
to then step forward
into a new present
a different reality
I move forward
one step at a time
down the path
continuing the journey
of life's adventure
emotion comes again
though lesser in
its intensity
it fills me with loss
and hides my hope
until I finally decide
to breathe out
letting go and
stepping back into
what my future holds
