Memorial Day's Dream
Faded memories, Marching Bands,
children waving, little flags in hand,
downtown anywhere, standing proud
shell shocked vets, they scream so loud,
Inside.
Heroes, confetti, ticker tape,
Greatest generation of America The Great,
Black and white photos in a wild Times Square,
memories fade, and that vets still there,
Inside.
Honor Flights taking off every day,
with walkers and wheelchairs they find their way,
some go home to be all alone,
to fight that fight that's all their own,
Inside.
Flash forward to the Viet Nam War,
helicopters chopping like never before,
They came home broken, with no parade,
so many found dead in that bed they made,
Inside.
Black-lit rooms, beneath wooden floors,
human souvenirs of another war,
flashing lights still hurt their eyes,
way down deep there's all that pride-
Inside.
Raise that flag for what it means,
be proud and let your freedom ring,
Families, neighbors, friends and foe,
no matter what we've gotta go,
Inside.
Our country's full of battle scars,
and our history's full of war,
Please remember this Memorial Day,
that their's always so much more-
Inside.
