Memento

Thoughts that come alive

I assemble it all in a glass

The bottom

Houses what I feel, the sides

Hold what I perceive -

Souvenirs from my life’s journeys,

An opportunity to relieve

*

If I could place each one

Onto my tongue

And let them fizz, alive

And kicking

Happening again

Re-energized

Taking me back to that moment

*

Watch them transform into words.

Explore the memories hidden within

Experiencing a different perspective

From the outside, looking in

*

Dreams wasted, goals

Underestimated

Fears disappear like dust in the wind

*

Taking back the power I gave it

My creation, I can save it

Throw away the hatred

Let them scatter,

Deflated.

*

What remains?

What remains?

*

I place my fingers around the inside of the glass

Feeling every elevation and indentation

Each feeling an island, bridged by inspiration.

I pray, only the good have stayed.

*

Carefully, I scoop them out

To hold them in my hands

Press them against my beating chest

Desperate to understand

*

Life meets life
