meditation

the other day i was meditating,

well i was pretending to meditate

i wasn't quite ready to greet the day

i thought maybe if i pretended it wouldn't come

all i could picture

was a raccoon

with a care bears t-shirt on

but like in a cool way

and i acknowledged the thought

and waited for him to drift away

but then i thought

what if this is enlightenment?

i wouldn't know

what if this cool dude is here

to congratulate me on being

excellent at meditation

i had fooled him with my pretending too

then of course the sun came up

and magic like that

tends to disappear in the daylight

the sun came up and i was not ready

and i did not have my enlightened raccoon

but i knew i had to keep moving

well, i knew i would keep moving

with or without enlightenment

or a raccoon in a t-shirt

with a beloved childrens cartoon on it

the sun came up
