Love on a Screen
Where seeds of dreams begin to dance
from across the room
the brightness of your eyes illuminate the screen
reflecting a love waiting to be given
your voice dances out from speakers
a heart's fingers softly reach
smiles stretch across state lines
gently coaxing the corners of weary souls to rise
*
raining down onto parched earth
droplets of hopeful dew heal the cracks of yesterday
as the magic of a new kind of happy
forces storm clouds to float away
laughter then pulls at fertile ground
and from beneath the forgotten soil of desire
the seeds of dreams begin to dance
*
I then saw you for the first time
not a reflection but two souls' reality
and before fingers intertwined and lips met
our hearts felt what flesh cannot touch
that true love had found each of us
the first time we saw the other
from across the room

This poem is dedicated to my husband. We met on Facebook 8 years ago. Over the next three months, we spent our days texting, talking on the phone, and video chatting until we finally met in person. Several states stretched between our homes, but the distance didn't affect how close we felt. Six months after meeting on the other side of a screen, we married. Thankfully, we now live in the same state and in the same home, but every time we see the other from across the room, it feels just like the first time.
