Lost in the Forest

A Sonnet

She clutches the mossy grass in her little hands

Her hair falling soft and full around her shoulders

A halo of sun circles her small head

Shaking the leaves from her feet

Slow but steady,

The river trickles by

Sticks and leaves puddling up like dam

The water laughs as it glides

Over the soft stones that

Line the bottom

She makes a bed among the trees

Of green moss and fuzzy leaves

Branches supporting the frame

Holding her the same

She lays down

Her hair trailing across the ground

Her eyes closed against the sun

Her face pale and young

Her cheeks blush against the ferns

As they envelop her in their grasp

Hiding her safely from

The storms that rage far away
