Listen To The Music Of Their Soul

Bypass their words, their body language

We are all individual beings,

Private to a great extent,

Thoughts rushing through our minds,

Worries that we lament.

***

Share these troubling wayside ideas,

Not likely, never letting others in that deep,

Fearful, they’d never love you,

If we give them our random thoughts to keep.

***

Our hearts beat to its own special drum,

Singing mournfully at times,

Then on days it’s full of deep bass tones,

Happily crescendoing to nature’s chimes.

***

The blood pulses in tune through our veins,

A build up to the grand finale, the sound mounting,

Swooshing in time to the glorious notes,

The rhythm in flow with the eight beat naturally counting.

***

Bittersweet sorrow is keening,

As the lyrical pulse rises to its pitch,

Pain crests and falls in song,

Pulsating in between each rolling hitch.

***

The high notes of laughter in times of glee,

Symbolically shivering from head to toes,

The ending is nigh as it picks up speed,

Collating every feeling and emotion we know.

***

The bass of our heartbeat when frozen in terror,

Like a pit vibrating in the low of our belly,

Dancing and prancing in symbolic fear,

Rattling our thoughts into stagnant jelly.

***

Do we really ever know another’s inherent sound,

Do we ever show each other ‘us’ in whole,

We never really know someone completely,

Until we listen to the music of their pure soul.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
