Library love affair
Poetry by Florence Susanne
There he sits, book in hand, losing himself to worlds created in ink and paper nestled so securely in the bindings.
I wonder where the journey will take him today.
If blood will be shed, lives lost.
I hope his heart is untouched by the pain of deserted companions as wars are lost,
lives taken,
and love destroyed.
There should be no tears slipping from beneath his heavy eyelids darkened by sorrow and sleeplessness.
The pages turn slower and his brow furrows creating valleys in his porcelain features.
Who is feuding in the universes you hold in the palms of your hands?
Has war broken out between unsteady trade partners?
Has a young man or woman come across a love they cannot have?
Please tell me, avid reader.
I sigh in relief as the corners of his lips turn up into a small smile.
The shadows disappear and the sun shines in return.
The conflict has been resolved, and all is well again.
The book closes with a soft whisper of stories left incomplete and as he gets up to leave
I wish so foolishly that he could take me on his next adventure.
