Last Light

Remembering

By Donna RyanPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Like shimmering gemstones, sliding from the hands of time

Treasures of other summers fall back into memory, sublime

Into eternity – captured

Where an innocence still remains, where hopes and the promise

Of youth and love

Never fade

The blithe songs of summer – part of life’s mystery –

An oracle of living,

Where purpose and meaning collide

Where the air glimmers

Opalescent, settling into a hush

Where silver jewels mellow in the last light,

A night bird’s song trailing

Over the gilded strand

The wave of notes

Stretching

Over a cerulean sky

Above, the stars still hold the beauty of dreams,

Of what it means to see life though a softer lens

To embrace summer

And all that it means

To see past the grayness

Of windswept terrains

To listen to summer’s tender song

Gentle, like pearl drops of rain

Cascading, glistening

Over a silken green
