Just Once

The Brightest Smiles Can Hide the Worst Pain

Behind her bright eyes

She's seen some things

Things that no one should have had to witness

Her vibrant smile

Has had to say goodbye

To people who should've never left

Her caring hands

Have had to defend her

Against those who were meant to protect her

Those strong legs?

They had to carry her, far and fast,

Away from the places

That should've been safe

Should've been home

Her life is a battle

Victories are always hard won

Day in

Day out

She fights for the right

To breathe another breath

To watch another sunrise

To live another day

The war is long

And stressful

And frightening

And she's just

So

Damn

Tired

All her life, she has survived

But just once

Once

She'd like to know what it means

To live

To flourish

To thrive

Just once

About the Creator

Mina Ramey

I read too much, I writing even more (Urban Fantasy is home sweet home!), and I have an almost unhealthy obsession with gaming. Any of my other oddities can be discussed over tea!
