Yemaya

Dear Goddess, Yemaya...

With sea and shell

With salt and sand

Take my wishes into your hands...

Wash them in the roaring waves

Tumble my heart until it aches

Raw and rare and brave and new

Make my heart always true.

Smiling like the summer sun

Warm my skin til I feel numb.

A glowing kindness like I’ve never known

Will come to me and take me home

Golden Goddess of the sea

Please be sweet and kind to me

For many years I’ve cried alone

With only my own hand to hold.

Loved ones come and go with ease

Yet here I am upon my knees.

Crying, screaming and feeling scared

Of all the pain - I was unprepared

Knowing what my heart must do

I saw the only way was through

Into the darkness, into the deep

My own shadows still terrify me

But now I see with angels eyes

The lovely and the painful times

They came to me to make me strong -

Came to show me where I truly belong.

I feel the sea within once more

The dancing blue upon the shore

Smiling deeply - a light inside

Yemaya make me happy tonight
