Starting with innocent curiosity

The slow and subtle seduction

Becoming the life of the party

Impossible to resist the attraction

Of abandoning every little worry

The constant struggle to survive

Spawns a world of my own creation

Forgetting about the need to strive

The slow cycle of self-destruction

When everything begins to dive

Scratch the itch rip it all to shreds

Better to embrace the side of insanity

Drive away all thoughts of distress

Escape the hardships of reality

Sink further into the abyss

Poem from my current work-in-progress, a memoir of sorts comprised of poetry and prose.
