It’s not Love

So why does it feel so good….

You know it’s not love

I have love and I know what that is

This isn’t it

But in the words of the song

Why does it feel so good?

As it does while you are in the middle of it

Is it friendship?

The budding of maybe…

There are many answers I suppose

To that question why…

Novelty

Curiosity

A ripple in your familiarity

It can transform

That would be for the best

But if that doesn’t happen

You find yourself standing

On the opposing side of enemy lines

What a shame

And a waste

But kind of inevitable

Would you not say?

A cliche

A that time of life thing

For me anyway

Silly really

But is it?

Love must hold so much

It might need to put that weight down for a while

Help comes unexpectedly

And unasked for

But for that brief sliver of time

Yes, fun

More could have been made

Of the game

Because that’s what it is, or was

An adventure

Showing you what you really need and deserve

Not what you might have believed

I know love isn’t being lectured, threatened

Ignored, denied a voice

No, that’s not love

And it’s not friendship either.
