Is There Not Sun to Light the Way?

by Perlita Lockett about a year ago in slam poetry

Is There Not Sun to Light the Way?

Is there not a sun to light the way?

You don’t have to do it on your own.

Only when it’s cold is the night longer than the day.

Then you come to me and you tell me:

It’s hard,

You don’t know which way to go,

Which path to take,

It’s difficult,

Life is confusing

But I look at you and I say, “Is there not a sun to light the way?"

You shake your head in agreement and say, “true,"

I go on to say, “I know I’m the dark you are oblivious to what’s real and what’s not. You can’t see who hurt you and what hurt you, and emotions come and go because you don’t really know what to expect."

You know there is and end to this just keep following the path and know there is a sun to light the way
