A fall from this height
would turn the caress of earth
to a cruel torrent
That which gives all life
come December, come the cold
will give only death
The world carries on —
planted feet cannot outrun
lives within the wind
Fireplace embrace —
Exhale, the heat of your breath
thaws my frozen limbs
