In Bruges

Belgium Beer

Walk too fast and you’ll miss it

for you must turn down

the narrowest of alleys

and feel by hand the

pattern of ancient stones

guiding you ever towards

a bar hidden from the world

not visible from the Belfort view

nor connected to the canals

flowing like the beer they serve

here at De Garre

poured in bowls more suited

for fish to swim and live among

the frothy rich amber malt

always limited to three

for then the two levels will spin

and you will stagger out

arms extended to brush the bricks

with fingertips feeling

the alley close in around you

until you belong finally and

at last to the city Bruges
