In a world...
Some thoughts from a Scottish Poet
You might want to be a writer, a poet, a dreamer, a believer, a butcher with a cleaver
You may like the idea of painting, plumbing, singing Prince covers, or rescuing a beaver
You might want to fill the world with pretty flower arrangements, comedic derangements
You may like the idea of selling cars, being a nurse, a doctor, academic achievements
*
Whether you want to have a husband or wife, or both or neither
Whether you want to have a father or mother, or both or neither
Whether you want to live in the city as a career-driven singleton
Whether you want to follow advice found in Weezer's Pinkerton
*
There are plenty of things in this world you can be
There are plenty of things in this world to do and see
There are plenty of people in this world and space for you
There are plenty of people in this world friends old and new
*
In a world where you can be anything, anything at all
In a world where you can do anything, anything at all
In a world where you can do things that really matter
In a world where you can do things to build up or batter
*
No one gets on with everyone all of the time
No one gets on with everything all of the time
That's all okay, and that's all good
Try to be polite, and try not to be rude
*
In a world where you can be anything, anything at all
In a world where you can do anything, anything at all
In a world where you can do things that really matter
In a world where you can do things to build up or batter
*
In a world where you can do, anything, be anyone, act any way, say anything
*
Don't be a dick.
Others have value too
Never underestimate the power of your words or actions
Try to be kind, even if it feels like a struggle
*
Build one another up, remember we all have struggles
Even if it sometimes doesn't feel worth it
*
Avoid unnecessary conflicts, confrontations, envy, and jealousy as these all take up too much headspace and get you nowhere
*
Don't always listen to social media influencers like they are the gold standard in advice - sometimes they are just pushing a crappy product, or service and getting paid handsomely for it
If someone is down and you can help - help. It's not your job to help them? Well, woopydefuckingdo. Consider how it might feel if the shoe was on the other foot.
Courage is not defined by how many people you stand up to in life and shove out of the way to "Make it"
Kindness will always be much better received than unadulterated dickery. Kindness may take a bit more effort than nastiness, but who said this was meant to be easy?
*
You don't need to listen to me. I'm not going to lose sleep over whether any of this goes in one ear and out the other. I am just one guy. I know it sounds preachy. I, frankly, don't give a shit.
Only thing I will say is that I know I am not alone. So, you can bitch, moan and complain. I don't care.
Unless the world and human beings, the good kind, changed overnight and I was again left out of the group chat. I know there are still people that feel the same as me.
*
Hatred is never clever, not inventive and really bad use of your time. Especially when it is wholly uncalled for. Especially when it is towards people you don't even know.
About 8 billion of us share this planet we call Earth.
Very likely not all of us will get on, all of the time.
Everyone has fallouts, break-ups, fights, and arguments and sometimes these are justified. I'm not denying there's bad out there, I'm not here to say there aren't people who deserve to rot in a prison cell.
*
There are criminals who are remorseless and there are despicable people
How you react is sometimes out of your control, so I'm not suggesting you become a saintly individual.
Easier said than done. I know this only too well.
*
People will always do what they want to do, regardless sometimes, sadly of the effect it has on others.
Only you, though, can map out a different course. Despite all the murk.
Worldwide, there is a need for more compassion, more patience, greater understanding, greater peace-making efforts, and most importantly, love
Each of us has a responsibility to do something different to the crowd that is out there doing crappy things.
Really, the point I want anyone reading this to take away is that in a world where you can do, anything, be anyone, act any way, say anything - Don't be a dick.

Thank you for reading! This was not what I intended for my next post, I was supposed to be working on my next labour of love, but...sometimes, the words need to come out. I've still not been feeling great, so decided to let my mind take control of what ideas come to fruition. I don't hold all the answers, these are just some of my thoughts.

Done in Paul's inimitable style. You definitely have your brand. Good read. Lots of humor. Enjoyable as always.
Exactlyyyyyyy, don't be a dick. Be kind to everyone but if you can't then just shut up! Awesome poem!
"Don't be a dick" precisely sums it up - :)
Exactly!!! Don't be a dick! Just don't. Loved this pointed, clever, much needed reminder. Really awesome work!!
Hear, hear! Don't be dick, indeed. Well said.
There are so many thoughts and emotions here, Paul - I felt so much of this, and I want to thank you for sharing. It helps me so much to know I'm not alone in feeling some things. Also, I don't know why, but I really loved the line about the beaver - it made me smile. :) I hope you feel better soon!
